De host controller is een speciale adapter in de computer-hardware die breidt de mogelijkheden van het systeem door het aansluiten van de apparatuur in het netwerk en opslag. De interface van deze apparaten maken gebruik van de bus organisatie, die met hoge snelheid van informatie-overdracht. Werkende configuratie van de adapters bepalen van de stuurprogramma ' s voor de host controllers. Ze zijn geladen in het interne geheugen van het systeem en zijn verantwoordelijk voor een breed scala van de transacties.
